The Alexandra Hills Australian Football Club seniors team have been crowned premiers for the first time in nearly 30 years.
After unfinished business from last season, Alexandra Hills clinched the 2023 QFA Division 2 North flag.
With a level score at half-time, Alexandra Hills AFC came away with the gold after a 49-40 win against the Kenmore Bears.
Club president Mick Bloye said it was a low-scoring game with a lot of tackling pressure from both sides.
“It was definitely an intense and fairly defensive game,” he said. “Bit of a heartstopper at the finish as we only won by nine points.”
The grand final was nothing new for the seniors after taking second place last season.
“The boys after last season were very determined to make this one count,” Bloye said.
Bloye said the grand final was always going to be intense and the team knew it was not going to be a walk in the park.
“We beat Kenmore only a couple of weeks prior, but anything can happen in a grand final,” he said.
“The entire intensity lifts and it certainly did for this game.”
He said among the day’s many highlights, Jacob Apted kicking four goalwas a standout.
“The boys really pulled through as a team, especially with a few players out due to injuries,” Bloye said.
“After the boys lost the first game, they really turned the season around and started to play some quality football.
“We hope next year to keep the team together and achieve a similar season.”
