Motor Service Cleveland has decided to shut its doors after half a century of serving multiple generations within the Redlands community.
After running the business for 35 years, owners Peter and Rebecca Frewen-Lord have decided to retire and cease operations.
Mr Frewen-Lord said he hoped someone would take over the business, but the building was now set to be demolished for a new purpose.
“It is a great spot here, always has been good to us and I am not surprised that heaps of people were after it,” he said.
“We work here 60 hours a week and have been since we took over 35 years ago.
“It is a big chunk out of your life, and we are looking forward to some time for ourselves.”
Ms Frewen-Lord said they were “crazy” cyclists and planned to cycle around the Northern Rivers over three weeks with friends.
“It is so exciting to have all these plans but also have the time to just relax,” she said.
The couple said closing the business was a bittersweet feeling, especially after serving the community for so long.
“We are blessed to have such loyal customers and they have all been very happy for us with our decision,” Ms Frewen-Lord said.
“We have known so many people through the generations and are servicing grandchildren’s cars from our original customers.”
Mr Frewen-Lord said they found their 1988 invoice diary and the customers on the first few pages remained customers to this day.
“We would certainly like to thank everyone for the past 35 years and for choosing us,” he said.
