Rousing voices and stirring drumbeats will join dancers in a celebration of those living with dementia on Tuesday, September 19 at the Redlands Performing Arts Centre.
The Rhythms of Joy concert will mark Dementia Action Week, which runs from September 18-24 around the country.
The concert line-up features Queensland’s first dementia choir Sing Sing Sing, Local Redlands drumming group Baysamba and others.
Organisers hope the concert will support people living with dementia and their families and carers to enjoy their lives without stigma, and as valued and respected community members.
On September 21, Word Alzheimer’s Day will be marked with the theme Act Now for a Dementia Friendly Community.
The event is a partnership between the Redlands Coast Dementia Community, Redlands Performing Arts Centre and Sing Sing Sing.
Redlands is Australia’s second city to commit to being dementia-friendly, meaning more services and facilities in the city are easy to access for those living with dementia.
Rhythms of Joy will be held on September 19 from 10am at the RPAC auditorium, followed by morning tea in the RPAC foyer.
Tickets are available from the RPAC website or at the door.
