A month is a long time to go without a local paper, and as I have found during that period, a seriously long time to go without writing about the city you love.

It is my pleasure to be at the helm of this masthead as we enter a new and exciting era for news coverage in the Redlands.

The closure of the Redland City Bulletin in April was a bitter pill to swallow, because it meant the community was losing its voice.

Thankfully, Local News Group led by publisher David Johnston has stepped in to fill the void and will publish a free newspaper in print and online for the community to enjoy every week.

Our role as the new gatekeepers of this city will be to hold the decision-makers to account and keep you informed about the issues that matter right across the city.

In these pages, we will cover politics, sport, entertainment, lifestyle, real estate and community news – every topic that residents have become accustomed to reading in their local paper.

Our journalism will be fearless, independent, balanced and informative. Redland City News, like the publication that has gone before it, will be your leading source for everything happening in this city.

So please join us as we take the first step in launching this new era. Our editorial team of myself and long-serving Redlands journalist Linda Muller cannot wait to hear your stories.

To send a news tip, submit a letter to the editor or provide feedback on this first edition, please send me an email at editor@redlandcitynews.com.au.

As Linda so eloquently pointed out in her column, it is the community that makes this newspaper tick. Let your voice be heard.
